28.08.2005 - Warnock named in England squad

Sven Goran Eriksson

Stephen Warnock has won his first call up to the full England squad, ahead of the two World Cup qualifiers which are due to take place during the next fortnight.

Following a 2004-5 season in which he often looked capable of holding down a regular place in the side, but suffered from a series of injury setbacks, the 23-year-old has enjoyed more luck with injuries this season and has played regularly in the Liverpool side.

Also named in Sven Goran Eriksson's squad is on-loan Liverpool keeper Chris Kirkland, who is currently at West Brom, while Jamie Carragher and Steven Gerrard take up their regular places in the squad.

England play Wales at the Millenium Stadium on Saturday, before facing Northern Ireland four days later.
