26.08.2005 - Liverpool comeback to win Super Cup
Two goals from Djibril Cisse helped Liverpool to a 3-1 win over CSKA Moscow in the UEFA Super Cup tonight
Liverpool dominated much of the game but found themselves a goal down after leess than half an hour of the match, then Daniel Carvalho put the Russian side ahead, after Reina had raced off his line, only for Carvalho to fire the ball past him and into an empty net from a tight angle.
The game was foreced into extra time though, when Cisse equalised eight minutes from time, deflecting an attempted clearance from Sergei Ignashevich towards goal, with the CSKA keeper nowhere.
The match went into extra time, and Cisse, a second half sub, grabbed his second of the game, quickly following up a shot which had been saved by tapping into an empty net.
And Luis Garcia netted the third, heading home from a cross from the right by Cisse to ensure the win.
Jamie Carragher was the man presented with the trophy, in the absence of the injured Steve Gerrard, and Liverpool have now won the trophy on three occasions, with only Milan having recorded more victories in the competition.
